Question

When is stomata said to be flaccid, turgid and plasmolysed?

Open in App
Solution

When stomata opens it is said to be turgid. When potassium ions enters the stomata, water enters inside to balance the solute concentration due to which stomata opens and becomes turgid.
When stomata closes it is said to be flaccid. When potassium ions leaves the stomata, water is expelled out to balance the concentration of the solute due to which stomata closes and becomes flaccid.
Stomata is said to be plasmolysed when kept in hypertonic solution, the plasma membrane shrinks leaving a gap between plasma membrane and the cell wall.
