Question

When the unit of weight is Newton ,Why we always expressit in KG ? Why everybody ask us 'what is your Weight " instead of asking 'What is your MASS.?

Open in App
Solution

the relation between mass (m) and weight (w) is

w = mg

Confusing mass with weight is a common mistake made by many people in the non-scientific community. However, we can get away with it as the valued of 'g' is the same everywhere in earth. It is assumed that the force of gravity is constant everywhere on Earth, which is a fairly good approximation.

Yes, you are right, the weight we measure on weighing machines should be in Newtons but we take it in terms of kg due to the reason described above.
