Solution

Self pollination involves pollen from the same flower fertilizing the stigma. In cross pollination the pollen from a different flower land on the stigma of another flower but belonging to the same species. The pollen and the stigma have chemical receptors which allow penetration of pollen grain and its germination only when they belong to the same species. Hence there is no way a new fruit can be formed.
