The comprehensive land development programmes were initiated b the government in 1980s and 1990s.
The condition of Indian agriculture improved to a large extent by introduction of these programmes. The farmers were made aware of the new techniques of cultivation. They got protection against crop failure due to disasters like flood drought etc.Investments in agriculture was made easier through the establishment of rural banks.Farmers can easily buy improved seeds and other implements necessary for agriculture.
The important steps taken in this direction include:

2. Kissan credit Cards were issued for farmers and also Personal Accident Insurance Scheme were introduced.
3.Annoucement of Minimum Support Price was made for important crops to check the exploitation of farmers by speculators and intermediaries.
