When we go deep under the ground the temperature increases but when we go deep under the sea the temperature decreases. Why is this so?

Solution

Deep under the ground temperature increases with depth due to the internal forces, chemical reactions and radioactive disintegration within rocks.

The surface of water is hot due to sun’s rays. The rays from sun can penetrate upto 20 m depth and therefore below 20 m to 200 m depth, the temperature decreases rapidly. Beyond that, the rate of decrease of temperature is slow.

Hence, when we go deep under the ground the temperature increases but when we go deep under the sea the temperature decreases
