when we take bath the skin of your fingers appear wrinkly .why?would our fingers appear more/less wrinkly after bathing in sea water?
The outermost layer of the skin which we can see with our eyes is called the epidermis. Beneath that is a layer of connective tissue that is rich in anchoring proteins and a protein called collagen. When our hands are immersed in water for a long time, the water seeps into surface skin layers via osmosis. The surface of the skin is a layer of dead skin cells. This layer swells up and expands producing wrinkles. The collagen below the skin also absorbs water and swells but the areas between the collagen don't swell, hence the skin shows folds. It appears the skin has shriveled and wrinkled, but it has unequally bloated in reality. If we keep our hands immersed in the water, the water will continue to be absorbed and the wrinkling will start spreading through the surface of the hand from the tips upward. The wrinkles become less in sea water as water moves out of the cells of skin while bathing in sea water.
