Question

which has the lowest boiling point-water acetone or ethanol and why

Open in App
Solution

Acetone has the lowest boiling point as the other two are capable of forming hydrogen bonds and hence have higher boiling points. Acetone cannot form hydrogen bonds as there are no H attached to oxygen atom. Molecules that form hydrogen bonding have higher boiling points as more heat is required to break these intermolecular forces.
