Question

Which is astronger reducing agent Cr2+ or Fe2+ and why?

Open in App
Solution

The standard electrode potential of Cr3+/Cr (-0.74V) is less than the standard electrode potential of Fe2+/Fe (-0.44V), as the electrode potential value increases the power to acts as a reducing agent decreases, thus Cr3+ is a strong reducing agent than Fe2+.
