Question

Which is stronger out of single, double and triple bond? Why?

Open in App
Solution

A triple bond consists of 1 sigma bond and 2 pi bonds hence is the strongest bond, followed by double bond which has 1 sigma and 1 pi bond, single bond is the weakest bond as it contains 1 sigma bond.

Sigma bonds are weaker than Pi bonds as their overlap is end to end compared to to lateral overlap of sigma bonds.
