Solution
When the electrolysis of aqueous solution of copper sulphate is carried out , the positively charged Cu2+ ions migrate to cathode and the reduction takes place as follows :
Cu2+ + 2e- → Cu
Thus Cu gets deposited at cathode.
At anode oxidation takes place .
H2O → 1/2O2 + 2H+ + 2e-
i.e oxygen gas is liberated.
