Separation techniques-
a) Small pieces of steel in the engine oil of the car.
Magnetic separation- Steel pieces can be attracted to strong magnet by moving magnet over the engine oil of car.

b) Mixture of petrol and diesel
Fractional distillation- This technique is based on different boiling points of constituent liquids in the mixture. The mixture is heated, as the boiling point of one of the component is reached, its vapours comes out of the mixture leaving the other liquid behind. The liquid with low boiling point will come out first.
