Chief Justice of India holds the highest judicial position in India and is appointed by the President of India in consultation with the Union Cabinet and other judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court. Generally, it is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court who is appointed as the Chief Justice.
The Chief Justice can be removed on grounds of incapacity and misbehavior. He can be removed ( Impeached in the legal term) only after the resolution of both the houses of Indian Parliament that is supported by the majority of two-third of the members voting and present.
