The then Viceroy,Lord Curzon is associated with the partition of Bengal in 1905.He became insecure with the growing popularity of the Congress to achieve independence.He decided to follow the policy of divide and rule.He partitioned Bengal into two parts with Muslim majority in eastern half and Hindu majority in western half.This will recude administrative pressure and also divide people on religious grounds thus weakening the spirit of freedom movement.
