Balgangadhar Tilak was a renowned Indian Nationalist.He was also a lawyer,a journalist,a teacher and a social reformer.Due to his popularity among the common people he was conferred the honorary title of "Lokmanya" which means "Accepted by the people".
He played a significant role in the Indian National Movement.He was the first leader to encourage the Swadeshi and Boycott Movements against the British policy of the partition of Bengal.Through these movements he discouraged the use of foreign goods and promoted the use of Indian goods produced within the nation.He popularised the slogan"Swaraj(self-rule) is my birthright and I shall have it".
