Sans-culottes:

1) The Jacobins was one of the clubs of poor people, formed to debate government policies.
2) They started wearing long striped trousers to make them look different from nobles, who wore knee breeches. Their clothing declaring the end of the nobles’ power.
3) These Jacobins were known as the sans-culottes, exactly meaning those without knee breeches. These men wore the red cap also to represent liberty.

The consequences:

1) The Jacobins started a revolution in 1792 as a result of inadequate supply and increase in prices of food.
2) They captured the Palace of the Tuileries, killed the king’s guards and detained the king as prisoner for several hours.
3) Later the Assembly chose to imprison the royal family thereby it put an end to monarchy and stated France a republic.
4) King Louis XVI was punished to death on the charge of disloyalty. The queen Marie Antoinette was also put to death after a short time.
