Why a magnet has a north pole and south pole?

The magnetic field lines due to any magnet are observed to come out from a point in the magnet and go into another point in another point in the magnet. The point from which the magnetic lines of force emanate is called the North Pole of the magnet and the point in which the magnetic lines of force go into is called the South Pole of the magnet.
