Question

why adsorption decreses with increase in temperature?

Open in App
Solution

Adsorption is an exothermic process, characterized by decrease in free energy of the system.

As we know that exothermic processes are thermodynamically favourable at lower temperatures, hence, Increase in temperature hampers adsorption process.

Also, at very high temperatures it causes an increase, in the energy of the adsorbed species and even result in desorption.
