Question

why alkali metal hydrides are ionic solids with high melting point ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Alkali metal hydrides are ionic solids due to the larger size and very low ionization energy of alkali metals compared to other metals. These ionic bond are non direction due to which one ion is surrounded by many opposite neighboring ions thereabout the solid. So this results in high melting point.
