Question

Why alkanes are almost non - polar molecule ? OR Why alkanes are called non - polar molecules ?

Open in App
Solution

Alkanes contain C-C and C-H bonds. There is very little difference between the electronegativities of carbon and hydrogen. So, the bond between carbon and hydrogen is non-polar as the electron cloud is equally shared by the two atoms.Hence, alkanes are non polar molecules.
