why alkene can give halogenation reaction even in dark but alkane not?

Alkenes are unsaturated and hence are more reactive than alkanes and thus undergo addition reaction with halogens easily. While in case of alkanes it is a substitution reaction and requires more energy and hence needs sunlight for reaction to occur.
