why alkyl groups are electron donating in nature??

Species which contain extra amount of charge or electron can tends to show + I effect. Alkyl groups consist of carbon and hydrogen where carbon is slightly more electronegative than hydrogen thus contain delta - charge on Carbon atom. Thus carbon get slight more electron on carbon atom i.e the carbon will push extra electron towards the group to which it is attached and act as electron releasing group.
