Question

Why an ammeter is connected in series? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

In the series connection, the current is the same across each branch. So, to measure the accurate value of current across a branch of the circuit we add an ammeter in the series of the branch.

Moreover, the ammeter has a low resistance so when it is connected in parallel it will draw a large amount of current and because we do not want to change the current that is flowing through the circuit, therefore, we connect an ammeter in series.
