Why are Alkanes called Parfinns ??

Initially, alkanes were called as paraffin because, they have some similarities like alkanes are also chemically inert up to some extent. The word come from the Latin phrase, "parum affinis" which means little affinity and the saturated hydrocarbon i.e. the alkanes, have low reactivity.
