why are coleontrates called as polymorphic animals??
Coelenterates are called polymorphic animals because they are found in many morphological forms during their life cycle. The two main forms of coelenterates are polyp and medusa.
Polyp has a tubular body with a mouth surrounded by tentacles at one end. They are sessile(fixed at their place). they are mainly concerned with feeding, protection and asexual reproduction.
Medusa has an umbrella shaped body with marginal tentacles. Medusae are generally motile and concerned with sexual reproduction.
Polyp and medusa are homologous structures and can be derived from one another easily.
