DNA or large DNA fragments are cut into small parts using Restriction endonuclease enzymes. They are cut into small parts for various purposes such as to clone a gene fragment into a vector, for DNA finger printing(to find out the criminal by matching DNA collected from the site,etc), for genome study, etc.
