Question

WHY ARE IONS SOLUBLE IN WATER?

Open in App
Solution

since ions have strong electrostatic attraction they pull water molecules towards them and create water dipoles . Water dipole orient themselves such that strong ion dipole interactions develop between the two and thus water create a large sphere of dipole around ion. Thus Ions are highly soluble in water. This is also know as solvation .
