why are vegetative propogated plants genetically similar to parents?

Because they have genes from one parent only whereas plants produced through seeds have genes from two parents. They have a mixture of genes from both the parents that make them little bit different from their parents whereas vegetatively produced plants have a similar set of genes as present in its single parent so they are similar to their parent.
