Why are weather observation baloons partly filled with helium?

Open in App
Solution

The gases used for inflating high altitude weather balloons are helium and hydrogen. Hydrogen gas is easy to manufacture and is thus cheaper than helium, but it is far more dangerous to work with it. Therefore, it is partly filled with the helium gas.
