Question

why berillium does not react with water??

Open in App
Solution

Just like aluminium, beryllium too have its hard oxide layer above its surface which subsides its reactivity towards water and ofcourse smaller size also matters here while the reactivity increases down the group. The electronegativity difference between Be and O-atoms are very small so that, Beryllium does not ionises easily and not forms bond with water.
