Question

Why C is termed as molarity of solution in osmotic pressure relation (Pi=CRT). not molality?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student!
Actually the osmotic pressure is explained as:

Pi = n RTi/V

Where n is the no. of moles per unit volume so n/V is the molar concentration and called a smolarity (when volume is considered)

Here n/V is replaced by term "C" so it has been called as "molarity" and not as "molality".
