Question

Why can light travel in vacuum, whereas sound can not do so ?

Open in App
Solution

Light waves are waves in the electromagnetic fields and these fields can exist in space and hence light can travel in space.

Whereas, sound waves are the vibration of other particles. Without any other particles present (like in a vacuum), there is nothing for the sound wave to cause to vibrate, so the sound wave can't travel through the vacuum.
