Question

why can't plants directly take nitrogen?

Open in App
Solution

Plants do not take nitrogen directly from the atmosphere because in the atmosphere nitrogen is present in form N2 and in this form nitrogen cannot be utilized by plant. Nitrogen also enters the plant through stomata but that nitrogen is not utilized by the plants as plants do not have mechanism to use nitrogen in this form.
