Solution
Components of air are separated using cryogenic distillation. It involves use of special cryogenic equipment . In this process the air is passed through molecular sieves so that any traces of water vapours or carbon dioxide gas are removed. If this is not done , then water vapours and carbon dioxide gas would harm the cryogenic equipment as they plug and freeze the equipment.
