Solution

Dear Student!

Diaphragm is important in the respiratory system as the contraction and relaxation of the diaphragm leads to inspiration and expiration respectively. The contraction of the diaphragm increases the thoracic cavity which lowers the pressure and causes the air to move inside lungs. Vice versa happens in the case of relaxation.

Diaphragm is essential for human life. A person with a damaged diaphragm would require ventilator support or a breathing pacemaker to live.
