Bhutan adopted democracy due to the following reasons:
1.Democracy is the best form of government. It allows people to elect political representatives of their choice.
2. In democracy, people are allowed to criticise the policies and programmes of the running government if they are not satisfied.
3.Democracy works for the welfare and economic development of the people.
4.In democracy people enjoy rights, liberties and freedom of all kinds.
Bhutan delayed in adopting democracy in the name of preservation of the Bhutanese culture and religious unity.Bhutan was against religious and cultural diversity which is contradictory to democratic principles. The efforts for establishing democracy was crushed. It was only after the end of Communism and cold war that democracy started flourishing in this country.
