Why did HNO3(Nitric Aid)react with metal and doesn't release H2 gas. ( Acid + Metal - Salt + Hydrogen)

Nitric acid is a very strong oxidizing agent due to which hydrogen gas formed in the reaction between a metal and nitric acid is again oxidizes hydrogen gas to water and itself get reduced to other nitrogen oxides. Thus nitric acid does not release hydrogen gas during the reaction.
