Question

Why did Mendeleev leave a few gaps in his periodic table?

Open in App
Solution

Mendeleev arranged the elements according to the mass no. and found that elements with same properties belonged to the same group.
In order to maintain the trend, Mendeleev left gaps in his periodic table to keep the elements with similar properties together. He predicted that new elements would be discovered later and they would occupy those gaps.
