why did the inflow of fine indIan cotton begin to decline

Open in App
Solution

It was a historical trend that the fine cotton produced in India were exported to European nations. But, a changing scenario emerged with the coming of industrialisation. The British cotton manufacturing began to expand and the industrialists have pressurised the government to put a ban on the imports of cotton from outside countries and promote the local industries. So, the British government have imposed tariffs on the import of cotton and cloth.Consequently, the inflow of fine cotton from India to Britain began to decline.
