Question

why different liquids differ in the relative rate of diffusion?

Open in App
Solution

The main reason for the diffusion rate to be different for different liquids is the difference in molecular weight of the compounds. A liquid with lower molecular weight, in other terms a lighter molecule will diffuse faster. On the other hand a liquid with higher molecular weight a heavier molecule will diffuse at a much slower rate.
