why do different colours of light white light bend through different angles with respect to the incident beam of light

Different colours of white light have different wavelengths and thus different speeds in the same medium. The colour with longest wavelength and maximum speed (red) gets deviated the least whereas colour with shortest wavelength and minimum speed(violet) gets deviated the most.
