Why do erythrocytes carry out only anaerobic respiration?

Erythrocytes have no cell organelle. The RBCs are dependent on anaerobic respiration for its energy needs because it do not have mitochondria for aerobic respiration. Whole of the RBCs are occupied by respiratory pigment hemoglobin.
