Question

why do ionic compound do not conduct electricity ?

Open in App
Solution

Ionic compounds do not conduct electricity in solid state because they donot have free ions to conduct electricity. The ions in solid state are held together by electrostatic forces and thus are not available to conduct electricity

Whereas, ionic compounds dissociate into ions in molten state and aqueous solutions. Therefore, they conduct electricity in molten state and aqueous solutions.
