Why do leaves and fruits fall to the ground when they get detached from the plant?

It is due to the gravity of the earth. As the fruits/ leaves detach from the trees, earth's gravitational pull acts on them. Gravity is the force of attraction exerted by earth towards its centre on a body lying on or near the surface of the earth.
