Question

why do marine fish burst when thrown under tap water

Open in App
Solution

  • Marine fish when thrown under tap water bursts because of Endosmosis
  • Because its metabolism is different and it is adapted to live in high salty water with higher content of salt in their tissues and organs. If it is thrown in tap water, it will naturally diffuse to (high concentration to the low concentration) the tissues and body of the fish.

  • Then the tissues and organs become engorged with water that ruptures the body of fish resulting in bursting.
