Question

Why do muscle cells have a large number of nuclei?

Open in App
Solution

Muscles cells remain in a constant state of contraction and relaxation. For this muscle cells are required to synthesise contractile proteins at a very fast rate. A single nuclei will not be able to do so. Therefore, a group of nuclei called syncytium present in a cell synthesise various contractile proteins at a very fast rate to allow the muscle cells to carry out their smooth functioning.
