Why do the ships which have more than 300 thousand tons float on water? Is the density of the water higher than that of the ships made of metal or does the cavity in the ships help in any way?
To float on water, an object must have a density less than that of water. A ship made up of iron with an air pocket (cavity) in the middle, decreasing the overall density of the ship enough to be less than that of water, allowing it to float.
