Question

Why do you call Spinal cord & the Brain as the Central Nervous System ?

Open in App
Solution

The brain and the spinal chord is called central nervous system not because it is in the center of body but because it functions like a central command or control station in our body. CNS coordinates the behavior; it integrates all of the available information and decides which action is needed. It controls the things we choose to do like walk and talk and the things our body does automatically like breathe and digest food. The central nervous system is also involved with our senses seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, and smelling as well as our emotions, thoughts, and memory. Because of all these reasons it is known as central nervous system.
