Question

why does a current carrying conductor kept in magnetic field experience force ?

Open in App
Solution

The current carrying conductor also has a magnetic field around it so when it comes in contact with the magnet's magnetic field it experiences a force as like poles repel each other and unlike poles attract each other. Marie Ampere said that the magnet exerts equal and opposite force on current carrying conductor. It is identified by Fleming's left hand rule.

The force depends on the following factors:

1. Direction and the strength of the magnetic field.
2. Strength of the current
3. Angle between direction of magnetic field and current.
