Why does Anode Rays depend on the nature of the gas present in the discharge tube ?

Anode rays are made up of positive ions and these are dependent of nature of gas present in tube because positive ions differs for each gas. While cathode rays is independent of nature of the gas in the discharge tube, because cathode rays are made up of electrons and electrons are universal constituents means they are same for every gas.
