Question

why does boiling point increase down the group??

Open in App
Solution

Boiling point increases down the group due to the increase in intermolecular forces as we go down the group. Stronger the intermolecular force (known as Van der Waal forces ) more is the boiling point. Now down the group the size of the atom increases. Due to increase in size there is more surface area between the molecules making the intermolecular forces stronger due to which the boiling point increases.
